BREATHE AGAIN...How Rape Brought a Young Girl from Misery to Ministry

In 1985 and at the age of 13, Lavinia Masters was rudely awakened in her sleep by a rapist who broke into her home.   Due to the development of a cold case sexual assault department and the advancement in DNA testing, Lavinia Master's rapist was identified over two   decades later. Lavinia's rapist has been     identified by utilizing the DNA samples taken during the first investigation.  The DNA     samples were linked to a man who was already imprisoned for another crime.  The identification of her rapist was a mind boggling experience for Lavinia. On the night of the assault, her attacker held a sharp knife to her throat and threatened that if she told anyone what had happened... he would come back and kill her and her family.

For over 20 years, Lavinia has longed for closure that seemed like an eternity. However rather than feel sorry for herself and not do anything, Lavinia poured herself in prayer and  writing, recording her feelings in notebooks and writing poetry, some of which is published in her first book entitled, "Breathe Again".

In addition to writing, Lavinia spends her time as an advocate for DNA funding for victims of sexual assault.   Lavinia Masters is also a public and motivational speaker, spreading a message of healing and of faith and serves on the speaker panel for RAINN and Denton County Friends of the Family where she also serves as a Sexual Assault Response Team Advocate and Family Services Case Manager.   For almost two decades, Lavinia Masters carried, what she

describes as an "empty space in hopes to fill it with a missing piece of her true identity".  She now dedicates her time and energy by identifying    her true purpose in life. Finally, Lavinia discovered a woman in the Bible, Matthew 26-7-13, who owned an alabaster box filled with a precious and priceless ointment—after identifying herself with the woman with the issue of blood. The woman with the alabaster box took her valuable ointment and poured it on Jesus' head as he sat and ate. Then as the disciples witnessed her actions, they began to criticize her because they felt that she had just made a waste.  Jesus then rebuked his disciples and questioned their behavior. And as He spoke, he went on to remind them the poor will be with them always, but that He would not.; Jesus also went on to tell them that the woman did what she had done for a purpose and that it was for His burial. He then went on to tell them that because of her sacrifice; that wherever the gospel shall be preached, in this entire world, that the pouring of a precious ointment from an alabaster box will be mentioned as a memorial for her.  Lavinia finally realized that the empty space that she has been carrying around for so many years was actually not empty at all. Her empty space was her alabaster box filled with a very precious ointment. Lavinia did not know the purpose of her ointment... as she described it to be "bitter and stale and having no value, but with a touch from God I discovered that it was sweet and valuable". The ointment that she now carries is empowerment which she gained as a survivor of sexual assault. This same empowerment and testimony is what she pours out to audiences abroad with hopes of bringing healing and restoration to all victims of sexual abuse.
